SERVPRO Professionals Provide Emergency Services in Plainsboro and the Surrounding Areas.

For homeowners in Plainsboro, a flooded home can be a catastrophic event. Everything is soaked. There may be broken windows or openings in the roof, allowing more water to enter the house. Floodwaters can also bring a host of toxic chemicals along with biological material into the home. Homeowners want to begin saving anything they can and make repairs as soon as possible. But should they wait until the adjuster arrives?

SERVPRO provides flood damage cleanup and restoration services to Plainsboro and surrounding areas. We can help with emergency repairs, cleanup, toxic substance removal, disinfection, and restoration. We provide 24 / 7 coverage and can be onsite in less than four hours to assist with emergency issues.

Our team at SERVPRO works with many insurance companies and adjusters. We have found that the best approach regarding emergency repairs before an adjuster arrives includes:

  • Avoid entering your home until it is safe – electrical, chemical slips, and falls are potential hazards.
  • Use your smartphone to take pictures to document the damage
  • Arrange for board-up services and tarps on roofs to prevent further water damage
  • SERVPRO can develop a plan to mitigate additional damage

Can Delays in Flood Cleanup Cause Additional Damage?

The amount of damage caused by flooding after a storm can vary a great deal. Every situation is different and must be assessed. However, delays in cleanup and drying of the contents and structure can cause further damage. For example:

  • Wood products absorb water and begin to swell.
  • Drywall materials also absorb moisture, swell, and begin to disintegrate
  • Coloring used in many fabrics, magazines, and flooring begins to bleed out to other materials
  • Mold starts to establish colonies 24 to 48 hours

Our team can help with initial emergency requirements, cleanup, and drying of your home. We also provide reconstruction and restoration services needed for significant damage claims. Our general contractor's license is 13VH06622700.

Storm Flood Damage Repair in Your East Brunswick Home Calls for SERVPRO’s Expertise

Water is a vital element of life, but it has an ugly underside. The damage from floods can affect sewer systems, vehicles, people, pets and contaminate water lines. It can also lead to severe losses.

When such circumstances hit property owners, SERVPRO saves them the stress of repairing the affected structures and contents. Our technicians are trained to tackle storm flood damage in East Brunswick properties. Armed with sophisticated equipment, our restoration process follows the general steps outlined below:

  • Pre-inspection
  • Floodwater extraction
  • Removing affected items
  • Drying
  • Disinfection and deodorization
  • Full restoration

Pre-inspection

After arriving at your home, our technicians can carefully pre-inspect every aspect of the damaged areas. We can also look out for dangerous situations like falling ceilings, electrical hazards, and deteriorating subfloors to prevent injuries during the restoration process.

Floodwater Extraction

Floodwater causes more damage to your building the longer it stands in it. Our SERVPRO team can remove the water and slurry using self-priming trash pumps.

Removing Debris

We can remove all the debris like leaves, ruined items, and building materials. We can place them in a dry area to sort, dry, and repair them. We can dispose of those that have been badly destroyed.

Drying

Our SERVPRO team can use axial air movers to pump dry air into the affected area. These air movers improve evaporation by introducing airflow at the surface level. They replace the saturated, cool boundary layer with drier, warmer air from dehumidifiers. We can then use refrigerant dehumidifiers to remove the water vapor in the air inside the building.

Disinfection and Deodorization

Our SERVPRO team can use disinfectants to limit or stop microbial growth. We can apply water-based odor counteractants to remove the bad smell that the floodwater left behind.

Full Restoration

We perform activities like repainting affected areas, replacing drywall, refinishing hardwood, and restoring furniture, among other restoration activities.

Managing Water Damage from Frozen Pipes in East Brunswick – Call SERVPRO

Ice dam Ice damming and frozen pipes are just some of the hazards of severe winter weather. Call SERVPRO for help!

Need Help for Water Damage from Frozen Pipes and Ice Damming in East Brunswick – Call SERVPRO

Frozen pipes during cold snaps can cause significant water damage to homes in East Brunswick. If the water in the line freezes solid, the pipe may crack and release torrents of water into your home once it thaws. There are several steps to prevent your water pipes from freezing and locate those that have. If the weather forecast is forecasting cold weather and your lines are susceptible to freezing, following the suggestions in this post can save you a great deal of damage and expense.

SERVPRO provides water cleanup and drying after water from frozen pipes or ice dams in East Brunswick causes damage to your home. We have the equipment to remove the excess water and dry the contents. We can also complete repairs if needed.

Anticipating cold weather and taking action to protect your pipes from freezing saves frustration, time, and expense. The following suggestions should be considered:

  • Turn up the thermostat to keep your home warmer, costs little, and prevent damage
  • Wrap heater tapes around the pipes in the area where they usually freeze
  • Insulate all water pipes with foam rubber insulation
  • Insulate all drain lines
  • Let the water run slowly on cold days in sinks
  • Fill cracks and insulate the wall around or near water pipes

If your water pipes are frozen, there are a few ways to thaw them out before permanent damage to the lines occurs:

  • Locate the frozen pipe. Turn one tap on at a time to isolate the frozen pipe.
  • Leave any taps connected to frozen pipes on
  • Verify that the water line is not split. If it is, it will release a torrent of water when it thaws. Turn off the main water valve.
  • If no split, heat the pipe using a hairdryer or heat lamp until the water begins to flow

East Brunswick SERVPRO Extraction Tools Mitigate Flood Damage and Safely Eliminate Standing Water

While many flood damage scenarios do not leave behind standing water, some do. The presence of standing water can render an East Brunswick residence less safe to travel through to collect essential belongings or turn off utilities in the event of a disaster.

SERVPRO’s rapid-response flood damage crew in East Brunswick is trained to handle standing black water, debris, and structural damages related to floods. This process adheres to Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) best practices and keeps homeowners safe and away from contaminants in the event of a flood.

Floodwater Extraction Tools Operated by SERVPRO Professionals

Standing water extraction tools vary based on the depth and volume of present floodwaters. While wet vacuums, mops, and portable extractors are typically sufficient for moisture exposure, more heavy-duty water removal equipment can include:

  • Truck-mounted extractors feature heating, pumping, and vacuuming systems, much like a portable unit. However, these units are attached to a truck with a tank that is at least 60 gallons for storing and removing water safely. These extractors have their own power sources and are more powerful than their portable counterparts
  • Submersible sump pumps, which are typically gas-powered and ideal for spaces with over two inches of standing water without solid debris present

However, extraction is just one of many steps that trained restoration professionals can take toward restoring a flood-damaged property. Debris removal, odor control, and sanitation with EPA-registered biocides are among the many essential tasks SERVPRO performs to restore homes to a pre-disaster state.

The SERVPRO Contents Claim Inventory Service (CCIS) keeps items organized while sorting out flooding restoration in East Brunswick.

Whether you contend with the tail end of a hurricane, tropical storm, or other extreme weather, flood damage in East Brunswick can completely disrupt your life. One of the ways to get things back on track might be to arrange a pack-out of furnishings, household goods, and personal possessions.

How Does a Pack-Out Assist with an East Brunswick Flood Damage Restoration?

When the SERVPRO crews arrive to assess the damage from flooding, a suggestion to consider a pack-out might not be far behind. Although moving out the contents of your home can feel chaotic, it acts to speed the restoration process by clearing out the spaces and making it easier to complete or manage:

Our crews can concentrate on water removal services, cleaning, and disinfection rather than stopping to move items or trying to work around them. Once structural drying commences, the lack of wet contents reduces the humidity in your home, allowing evaporation to complete more efficiently.

How Does the SERVPRO Contents Claim Inventory Service (CCIS) Work?

SERVPRO crews do the heavy lifting, literally wrapping bulky items and packing others' inboxes. Articles are tracked using lists, barcoding, and digital photography. We work closely with your insurer as we evaluate the items and decide what can survive the flood damage after restoration and what needs disposal and replacement. Careful documentation permits us to support your claims, reducing out-of-pocket costs. Once our on-site technicians complete flood damage restoration at your home, the contents will be ready to return to make your house a home again.

Your confidence in the expertise and systems of SERVPRO of East Brunswick / Princeton Meadows is well placed during storm-related flooding. Call us at (732) 307-9665 to see if a pack out will help with contents and home restoration.

Biological Hazards Present the Most Direct Threats to the Health and Safety of Plainsboro Homeowners After Flooding

Cleaning up after flood damage can be a challenge for even experienced restoration professionals. With the possible hazardous conditions that could exist, it is advisable to seek trained and certified restoration specialists like our SERVPRO team to help.

What Biological Hazards Must SERVPRO Professionals Overcome?

While the flood damage to Plainsboro homes is enough to warrant the need for SERVPRO restoration professionals, when you consider biological threats with intruding contaminants, it makes the need even more clear. Some of these threats include:

  • Viral Pathogens – These are hazardous presences despite their biological inferiority to bacteria and fungi. Pathogens for viruses spread fast and can make occupants of the house sick.
  • Bacterial Pathogens – Describe microbes living in soil, organic matter, or water. These pathogenic threats can travel through many pathways, including the air or cross-contamination with foot traffic through a flood-damaged space.
  • Parasites – Parasites are not uncommon attributes of intruding floodwater. These, too, can cause damaging effects for those exposed.
  • Fungi – The dissemination of fungi and microbial threats throughout the property after flood damage is considerable. These microbes and organisms can multiply and travel great distances in search of suitable conditions and hosts.

Intruding water can become a health hazard for those exposed without immediate action. Trust in the fast response of our SERVPRO of East Brunswick / Princeton Meadows team to help when you call (732) 432-9800.

Can We Salvage Carpets after Flood Damage in Plainsboro?

2/22/2021 (Permalink)

wet tan carpet in a living room Storms are known for flooding properties. SERVPRO has the team of experts you need to get your life back on track.

SERVPRO understands homeowners' worries

When dealing with a storm's after-effects, it is natural to want to know how much of your belongings you can save.

SERVPRO is here to help with flood damage in Plainsboro. Our philosophy is to save as many belongings as we can, rather than replace them. This is more cost-effective for our customers, and also makes it easier to deal with insurance companies.

Unfortunately, in many cases, it is not possible to salvage carpets after flood damage. That is because water damage has three categories:

  • Clean water comes from burst pipes, overflowing tubs or sinks, or sometimes leaking appliances. It does not usually contain many contaminants.
  • Gray water might contain contaminants or microorganisms. Gray water includes water from dishwashers, freezers, toilets, and fish tanks.
  • Blackwater might contain toxic chemicals, bacteria, or viruses. Blackwater includes water from rivers and streams, sewage leaks, and groundwater.

Because stormwater is classified as black water, it is safer to dispose of carpets. SERVPRO is equipped to decontaminate and clear the area, and we can also oversee carpet replacement.

If you need help with flood damage, call SERVPRO of East Brunswick / Princeton Meadows at (732) 432-9800.

SERVPRO Is Available 24/7 to Serve the East Brunswick Community for Restoration and Rebuilding Services

East Brunswick has the distinction of being part of the New York City metropolitan area, although located in an adjacent state. This suburban community has over 46,000 residents, which is a far cry from its humble beginnings. A baker from New York, named Thomas Lawrence, bought thousands of acres of the surrounding land from the Lenape Native Americans and the bill of sale from the deal resides in the New Jersey State Museum in Trenton, New Jersey. The State of New Jersey incorporated the small township with its current name in February 1860.

This city is at the mouth of the famous Hudson River and located on the Raritan River's southern shore. Locals rate the city as tops for arts and culture, education, and having an excellent economic center. The only drawbacks given are the cost of living and crowds at many venues. The cost of living is 130% more expensive than the rest of the country.

Notable People From East Brunswick

Even though East Brunswick is a smaller community, many notable persons hailed from this area, such as:

  • Cenk Uygur, host of The Young Turks on Current TV
  • Brian Selznick a well-known author and illustrator of children's literature, including The Invention of Hugo Cabret
  • Margaret Kemble Gage was married to a British general during the Revolutionary War and spied on her husband to provide military intelligence to the American Revolutionary Army.

What Are Common Repairs Needed After Flood Damage in an East Brunswick Home?

When SERVPRO handles flood damage cleanup and restoration services in East Brunswick properties, many frequently seen repairs enable structures to recover more quickly after this type of damage.

Extraction is the Beginning

In many cases, the flood water recedes before the cleanup efforts begin. It is not uncommon for the technicians to arrive on-site and find a damn residence but no standing water. They use their moisture detection equipment to trace the water migration paths to determine the accurate scale of the restoration needed. The water extraction may get done with any combination of portable pumps, truck-mounted units, and submersible pumps that work in water greater than two inches in depth.

Controlled Demolition is a Key to Successful Mitigation

When water enters a home, it migrates rapidly and wicks into sheetrock. The initial signs this is occurring include:

  • Sheetrock that appears wet
  • Visible water spots
  • Buckling or deterioration of the wall or ceiling

The techs cut off the ruined part and leave the rest intact. This action makes the drying process go much faster. The controlled demo looks worse at the start but works to save as much of the structure as possible. Because this SERVPRO has a general contractor license #13VH06622700, they can offer a seamless transition from restoration to reconstruction to their clients. This helps eliminate the stress of locating a trustworthy contractor to handle the repairs or rebuilding needed.

SERVPRO of East Brunswick / Princeton Meadows at (732) 432-9800 brings extensive experience and a wide array of professional equipment to local properties to handle any size flood damage and make it "Like it never even happened."

  • If your home has electrical issues, contact your local electricity distributors to inform it about the situation.

What type of damage can a storm cause other than flooding, and how do you deal with it?

A storm can compromise the safety of your home. Knowing the type of destruction to expect can help you deal with it effectively. Our team can handle different kind of damage, including:

  • Hail damage – This can affect the roofing and siding. Our technicians can inspect your roof for damages and provide the needed repairs and restoration.
  • Wind damage – Strong winds can lift shingles in your roof or cause cracks. Flying debris may also cause holes or cracks in your roof and siding. Our team can board up your property to prevent additional damage from the elements of weather or intruders.
  • Snowmelt and ice dams damaging roofs and attics
  • Water damage – Floodwater can affect your entire home, compromising its structural integrity, and posing certain health hazards. The common moisture-related issue is mold growth. Our team can use portable pumps to remove the floodwater. We can then use centrifugal air movers to increase air circulation in your home so that drying can take place much faster. Our team can then use desiccant dehumidifiers to remove water vapor from the air.

Our SERVPRO team sets up drying equipment to create a balanced drying system, meaning that the rate of evaporation is slightly less than or equal to the rate of dehumidification. We use moisture detection tools such as moisture sensors, thermo-hygrometers, and moisture meters to determine if a home is dry. Once your home is adequately dry, we can replace the affected building materials such as wood, drywall, and dry lining.

After a storm causes flooding in your home, do not hesitate to seek help. SERVPRO of East Brunswick / Princeton Meadows can restore your home within a short time. Call us today at (732) 432-9800.

Certified Disaster Mitigation Experts Are Ready to Remove Flood Damage from Your Plainsboro Basement 24/7

Basement flooding is almost an inevitability in most Plainsboro homes that have them. Statistics estimate that a whopping 98% of basements have experienced moisture damage in their lifetime.

If your basement is affected by flood damage in your Plainsboro property, SERVPRO professionals are available to help you 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. This team is dedicated to keeping your home in a preloss condition free of odors, microbes, and floodwater contaminants.

Preventing Basement Sump Pump Flooding

There are several issues you can address in your home before flooding occurs to ensure that your basement sump pump can handle floodwaters.

  • Faulty, damaged or obstructed sump pits.
  • A malfunctioning inner float, which typically means there is debris stuck in the pump. Prevent this by keeping the filter and exterior grates clean.
  • Overheated pumps, an issue typically caused by inadequate ventilation or clogs that leave the pump running without actually sucking up water.
  • Undersized sump pumps, which can burn out quickly
  • An old sump pump may no longer have compatible parts for repairs or handle as much water as a newer system. Older properties may not have a pump system in the basement at all.

SERVPRO’s Flood Damage Extraction Tools

SERVPRO techs have a wide array of water extraction tools at their disposal to address any size disaster. Both portable extractors and truck-mounted systems operate with three systems:

  • A vacuum to suck up water
  • A heating system for sanitation
  • A pump system

All three are necessary for removing water from upholstery, but only the vacuum portion is needed for extracting water in most other applications.

Working with an Experienced Team can make this Stressful Process a Bit Easier to Handle

New Jersey is no stranger to intense weather, including hurricanes and nor'easters. This wicked weather can bring high winds, rain, and flood damage to both commercial and residential properties in the local area.

When a winter storm rolled through with cold, heavy rains, causing flood damage in an East Brunswick basement home theater. The grade on the property did not direct the water away from the basement, and it entered around the windows and ran down the walls, pooling on the slab floor.

Scoping and Priorities for Water Loss

The homeowner was concerned about their home theater projection equipment and the soundbar system in the basement and requested SERVPRO technicians remove them as quickly as possible. The techs advised the homeowner to have the electronics inspected by a qualified electrician, or they could arrange for one before the equipment got used again.

Rapid Water Extraction

The area rug on the slab floor was heavy with water, needed the moisture removed because it could get safely taken out of the basement. The techs moved the couch in the basement and boxes of DVDs to another area of the home during the water cleanup process. After that, the removal of the rest of the water went quickly.

Drying the Basement

SERVPRO techs take air measurements in unaffected areas of the home to determine the usual conditions to ensure a healthy environment. Through this method, drying goals get set and monitored while the air movers and dehumidification equipment runs to ensure the basement attains preset markers for air quality.

Removal and Repairs

After flood loss in a home, it can be stressful to deal with restoration services and reconstruction. With their general contractor license #13VH06622700, the techs can take the restoration services directly into repairs to bring the home theater in the basement to its preloss condition and ready to entertain again. This service can include needed corrections to the grade on the property and resealing around the basement windows.

At the first sign of flood damage, contact SERVPRO of East Brunswick / Princeton Meadows at (732) 432-9800. The certified techs can restore and rebuild the home to make the water loss, "Like it never even happened."

Are you Ready if Disaster Strikes?

9/17/2019 (Permalink)

The likelihood of you and your family’s survival in an emergency depends largely on the plans you have in place should disaster strike.  Whether it’s a flood, fire, storm damage, earthquake, hurricane or whatever the case, having a plan in place and the tools to make it on your own for at least three days is crucial.  The time to prepare is now!

Creating a kit of emergency supplies is a must.  Fresh water and food are your first consideration.  Plan to have at least a gallon of drinking water per person per day.  Include at minimum a three-day supply of non-perishable foods that are easily stored with little preparation.   Food items such as dried fruit, protein and granola bars, canned foods, cereals and nuts are perfect.  Consider packing warm clothes and a sleeping bag for cold weather climates.   Also include a first aid kit as well as a battery-operated radio, extra batteries, flashlight and a can opener.  Don’t forget any specific or unique items you or your family may need such as medicines, supplies for your pets etc.

Now that you have an emergency supply kit ready, the next step is to have a plan of action.  Create a system of communication between family members and/or co-workers.  Keep in mind that emergencies can happen while at home or at your place of business.  Ensuring that everyone knows the plan and reviewing it ahead of time is important.

The time to prepare is now!

Preventing Frozen Pipes

2/14/2017 (Permalink)

Here's what you need to know to be prepared and prevent water damage to your home:

  • Keep cabinet doors open during cold spells. This allows warm air to circulate around pipes.

  • Keep a slow trickle of water flowing through faucets, especially if the pipes for faucets run through unheated or uninsulated areas of your home.

  • Shut off outdoor faucets. Find the shut-off valve in the basement or crawl space and turn it to “off .”

  • If you follow the previous step, then open the outdoor faucet to help ensure it drains completely and the inner valve is shut off.

  • Ensure gutters are clean and secure. Leaves and debris accumulate, causing a damming effect on gutters, which could lead to roof problems and water damage.

  • Proper maintainance of your furnace can help reduce the risk of puffbacks.

  • Tag the location of your main water valve and make sure you can easily turn it on and off.

  • If you have a thermostat that uses a battery, be sure to replace it regularly.

  • Wrap pipes nearest exterior walls and in crawl spaces with pipe insulation or heating tape.

Following these precautionary steps to protect your plumbing will help you avoid water damage cleanup to your home after a burst pipe.
